Arnold T U19 1-3 Calverton MW U19

Monday 5th March 2011 - kick off 7:49pm -- North Mids U10 League Div 1

Back to Eagle Valley for the latest dose of U19 football, and I have to say that it's got to be a lot warmer before I venture out to see what was in reality an average game between two average teams.

Arnold, on form, were favourites to win, but when you have a combination of bad defending and poor finishing, you end up with what you deserve.

The Eagles did take the lead in the 10th minute - the Calverton keeper failed to hold on to a shot giving the home no. 9, JOSEPH BROTHWELL a tap in, but it was downhill from then on.

Calverton were level on 21, FELIX HOGG  rifling home from 12 yards after the home defence gave him far too much room 12 yards from goal.

The same player put the visitors ahead on the half-hour - this time it was a corner in from the right that wasn't cleared, and HOGG was allowed room at the far stick to poke home. H-T 1-2

The second half didn't see much note taking - it was far too cold and the game didn't inspire a literary masterpiece. The only goal of the period came from the Calverton's OWEN ROBERTS - his shot from fully 35 yards deceiving the Arnold keeper, who in all honesty should have "thrown his cap on it".....but it pleased a couple of the away following who were celebrating like they'd won the F.A. Cup!!  F-T 1-3

The evening was spent in the company of Brian Dennett, Trev Williams and Tony Squires. A little worried about Brian  - he didn't look too well, but I suppose the Baltic temperature didn't help....
