Saturday 16th final tie -- winner game 1 v winner game 3

This game was between NCEL Premier Parkgate and CML (?) Pinxton - Pinxton still await the outcome of their appeal the the F.A. after the CML dismissed their request to be allowed to move up to the EMCL.

Spent the first half in the company of Mr.Dennett - and the second half with good friend Scarborough Athletic manager Rudi Funk and their keeper Ed Eley. Very pleasant evening - and the rain keep off as well, after a pre-kick off deluge had somewhat dampened the spirits!!

Pinxton had a couple of unfamiliar faces in their line up - but keeper Gareth Jones, defender David Leake and winger Gerry Moran all had decent games.  Parkgate ? The only name known to me was Nathan Forbes, and he's added to his name and is now Nathan Forbes-Swindells.

Parkgate scored the games opener, poor defending allowing JORDAN TURNER space to slot home in the 14th minute. Pinxton levelled through JOE RILEY on 31, his low drive from 30 yards deceiving Parkgate keeper Aaron Chapman, who managed to get fingertips to the ball, but couldn't halt it's progress into the back of the net. H-T 1-1

I had purchased a 50-50 ticket to see if my luck had changed, but no - two numbers out on this occasion....next time maybe!

Caught up with Rudi during the break. I told him I thought the Scarbro v Hucknall game was poor - but he was still beaming - not too worried about the game and how bad the second half was - Boro won and as far as he is concerned that's job done.

He has a point to some extent - Scarborough Athletic are one of the bigger non-league outfits, and the club has a lot riding on Rudi. Reading between the lines, I reckon that a few losses could cost Rudi his position!! Knowing Rudi - he is a winner and if he doesn't eventually succeed at Scarborough, it won't be for lack of trying!!

Young keeper Ed Eley was known to me from his short spell at the Stags under Dave Holdsworth - he was brought in at Field Mill from Grimsby as cover for Alan Marriott, and then had spells at Eastwood ,  Mickleover and Shirebrook before following Rudi to Scarborough.

As for the game, Pinxton took Riley off at half-time and replaced him with Rory Davis - the Academy player earned himslef a booking half way through the second period, then conceded a penalty on 70 - and was lucky not to receive a second yellow for the challenge. As it was, Davis stayed on the pitch and NATHAN FORBES-SWINDELLS fired the ball past Jones to give Parkgate the lead. Pinxton tried to restore parity, but even when chances fell to Brady and Debrower, they found keeper Chapman in great form, and couldn't find a way past the tall stopper. F-T 2-1
