Carlton Town 2-0 Staveley MW

Saturday 23rd July PSF
Mr. Dennett looking very dapper!!

We were due to go to Kirkby Town v Askern Villa, but that was called off - our second choice was South Normanton Ath v Belper Town.  Kev told me he couldn't make a game today, and I didn't fancy going to Lees Lane on my own and being a real " Billy No-Mates" , so opted for Carlton Town v Staveley where I knew Brian Dennett and Trev Williams would be in attendance. As it happened blogger Rob "The Rambler" Campion was also present. Met Rob for the first time at the Pinxton/Heanor game - and after this second meeting in two days, our paths will probably not cross again all season!

The game itself was poor - Real "after the Lord Mayors Show" stuff. It was interesting to note that the players didn't line up and shake hands before kick off - interesting because all most of them wanted to do was to kick lumps out of each other.... can't see why - I don't think there is any previous history between these teams, but they certainly weren't very friendly towards each other!

First half action

Two second half strikes secured the win for the Millers. The first on 47 when Massiah McDonald ran down the right before cutting in and picking out ROB GILL who had the relatively simple task of steering the ball past the Staveley keeper.  RYAN GOWARD slammed home the second from 20+ yards on 73 - a real cracker that left the Staveley keeper grasping for thin air.  The Referee called a halt to proceedings a couple of minutes early as tempers really began to flare - what you could call a pre-season "not-so-friendly".   F-T 2-0

Second half action

Supposed to be going to Carlton v Eastwood on Tuesday.. may have a re-think..
