Monday 11th July -- Teversal tournament
A great game, played between two teams fully committed to getting into Saturday's final. Defensive errors cost the hosts dearly, although their NCEL Premier opponents Staveley didn't have it all their own way.
Watched the game with Rob Waite - and 113 others! Cracking turn out for this game.
Staveley were in a yellow kit trimmed with blue - and very smart it looked as well.
The game was finely balanced for the first half-hour, then Welfare skipper SHAUN TUTON tried his luck from 25 yards. Tevie keeper Scott Thompson appeared to have the shot covered, but a slight deflection took the ball just out of his reach and into the net.
As the half entered it's final minute, Teversal drew level when GARY ATKIN slid home after great work down the right by Reece Blake. H-T 1-1
No luck with the 50-50 draw again.... one day maybe. Rudi Funk was again pitchside, as were Brian Dennett, Pinxton boss Kenny Shinfield and Spirite hopper Chris Marsh. Mr. Dennett made himself very comfortable and during the break grabbed some very nice cheese scones - likes the hospitality suites does Brian!!
BIG ISSUE ??? |
TODD JORDAN restored Welfare's lead on 70, squeezing the ball past Thompson, but straight from the restart, OLI TRIGG was on hand to pounce on a loose ball after Staveley keeper Adam Ledger had failed to hold onto a fierce drive. SIMON BARRACLOUGH was given too much room in the 75th minute and clamly fired the visitors back into the lead - then more less than decisive defending four minutes later, gave LIAM KAY the opportunity to run into the box and fire home to effectively end the contest. F-T 2-4
Thoroughly enjoyable two quids worth... hope to get to the Belper / Parkgate game - and maybe the final itself on Saturday.
